Kate and Leopold

Meg Ryan stars as Kate McKay, a modern female executive in New York City whose drive to succeed in the cutthroat corporate world has left little time for romance. When her genius ex-boyfriend Stuart (Liev Schreiber) opens a portal in time, the experiment transports Leopold (Hugh Jackman) from 1867 to the present day. A charming bachelor and the royal "Third Duke of Albany" in his own time, Leopold is fascinated by the 21st century. As the courtly Leopold and the decidedly liberated Kate tour the town, a mutual attraction develops into something deeper, a relationship that's threatened by Leopold's temporary chronological status.

This movie just happened to be on TV last Saturday and I watched it while cleaning my room. It is adorable and if you love Hugh Jackman (like I do) you will love it:) I love it when he is eating tater tots, wondering what they are, and decides they are not very good so he states he is ready for the next course. She just looks at him dumbfounded and decides he is truly an idiot. He is such a gentleman and she does not know how to respond. It's like she has never been around anyone with manners before. Her brother is so funny. He thinks that Leopold is an actor who is always in character. He's so impressed. Very cute movie>

Mine For 44 years

When I came home from work today the house had this familiar smell from my childhood. Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies. OMG!

Grandma had recipe folders when we were growing up. She'd snip out and tack in recipes from magazines and newspapers, these interspersed with handwritten cards bearing the bosom-held secret recipes of family and friends. Hers were fat and full with both the memory and the promise of delicious meals. And cookies
Since our book Outlander is set in 18th century Scotland and they relied on the abundance of oats, our food theme for the month is Oatmeal Cookies. Grandma loved them and when I looked at her recipe book, she had lovingly marked this recipe as her own. For 44 years.
These are the ones I remember. They are not flat like most of the oatmeal cookies we are familiar with. They are high and light and they have clove and cinnamon. They are so grandma.
 She ate them like this.
 With butter.
 For breakfast.
Please, if you make nothing else from this blog, make these. Follow the recipe exactly.
I remember how much she loved these. You will not be disappointed.
I promise............

My Old Oatmeal Cookie Recipe (Grandma J.)
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup melted shortning-not oil
2/3 cup sour milk
2 cups oatmeal
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp soda, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves-sift together
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup nuts
Beat eggs and add sugar and beat thoroughly. Add shortening.
Stir in rolled oats and milk. Let stand 10 minutes. Add dry ingrediants and raisins and nuts.
Bake at 375Deg. for 10 min.

P.S...to make sour milk, just add vinegar to milk. about 1 tsp per cup of milk
Bye......
More later.........
P.SS...Matt made these:)
