"surely as cometh the winter, I know, there are spring violets under the snow."

The Winter Sea

from goodreads

In the spring of 1708, an invading Jacobite fleet of French and Scottish soldiers nearly succeeded in landing the exiled James Stewart in Scotland to reclaim his crown.

Now, Carrie McClelland hopes to turn that story into her next bestselling novel. Settling herself in the shadow of Slains Castle, she creates a heroine named for one of her own ancestors and starts to write.

But when she discovers her novel is more fact than fiction, Carrie wonders if she might be dealing with ancestral memory, making her the only living person who knows the truth-the ultimate betrayal-that happened all those years ago, and that knowledge comes very close to destroying her

“Men who watch, and say little, very often are much wiser than the men they serve.”
Susanna Kearsley, The Winter Sea

I loved this book. The way she describes the sea, and Slains, and the surrounding area is fascinating to me. I liked that the Countess of Erroll, Anne, was such a strong woman. I loved going back and forth from Carrie to Sarah and watching both of them develop their own lives and stories. Love is in the air!! Awesome!! I rate this with 5 stars (is that the best?) because this is one of my favorite books!!!

Ok, I seriously loved this book! I couldn't put it down. I now want to visit Scotland and stay in a small town. I would love to visit some castles too! Someday:)
