mexican train and peanut m&m's

in "the book thief" liesel's foster family is very poor and one of ways they pass the time is by playing dominoes....

the images of dominoes also plays a big part in most of physical description's associated with this book...
i know it's one of the images i place with the book...

when my little family goes to torrey, we often play
"mexican train"
with grandma dallyne...
it's a version of dominoes that is like UNO
it's really fun and perfect for a lazy afternoon in torrey....
next time you are there,
ask grandma dallyne to play with you...
it's fun...

learn to play mexican train here

you could enjoy some of these while you are at it...

remember these just sitting on the pantry shelf...

torturing us...

meaney...

I love that game. I sure remember the peanut m&m's at grandma J's. I would always play Chinese checkers with her and she was really good, and competitive. She would never let me win, I had to earn the win. She was so funny :)

I'm pretty sure grandma was always wanting to teach us to play this, but we just wanted to set up the dominoes and knock them down instead :)

Remember our "girls" trips to Snowbird in the summer with Grandma Jennings. Cindy & Staci got a bag of peanut M&M's to share. Dallys and I got a bag to share and Grandma J had her own bag all to herself. Our bag was gone the first day, Cindy & Staci's bag lasted longer then ours. Grandma still had M&M's when we left and she would NEVER share her bag!!! Oh the lesson's she taught and the love she shared!!! We were really lucky to have such a cool and fun Grandma!!

I still can't look at a bag of peanut m&ms without thinking of her. She was stingy with her stash. She's the reason we all like chocolate so much. I remember our snowbird trips. Such good memories.
