Mine For 44 years

When I came home from work today the house had this familiar smell from my childhood. Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies. OMG!

Grandma had recipe folders when we were growing up. She'd snip out and tack in recipes from magazines and newspapers, these interspersed with handwritten cards bearing the bosom-held secret recipes of family and friends. Hers were fat and full with both the memory and the promise of delicious meals. And cookies
Since our book Outlander is set in 18th century Scotland and they relied on the abundance of oats, our food theme for the month is Oatmeal Cookies. Grandma loved them and when I looked at her recipe book, she had lovingly marked this recipe as her own. For 44 years.
These are the ones I remember. They are not flat like most of the oatmeal cookies we are familiar with. They are high and light and they have clove and cinnamon. They are so grandma.
 She ate them like this.
 With butter.
 For breakfast.
Please, if you make nothing else from this blog, make these. Follow the recipe exactly.
I remember how much she loved these. You will not be disappointed.
I promise............

Those were good cookies. Grandpa always had them in a Coffee can in his van. I would eat them when we went dog training.
